DPF filters have become a must be fit component by vehicle manufacturers. They have been fitted into the exhaust systems on vehicles from 2008 onwards because of anti-pollution laws. They are designed to reduce vehicle emissions, particularly the soot content.

Vehicles fitted with DPF's need to operate in a mixed drive cycle with regular long runs to regenerate the DPF and clear out soot build up. Too much city driving and your DPF warning light will come on to say there is a fault. Often the car will go into "limp mode" and you will notice a big loss in power.

We see a number of vehicles with DPF faults and often owners only come to us after having the DPF filter unnecessarily replaced at great expense.

If your car goes into "limp mode" or "get you home" mode this regeneration process will not take place. Many cars that have been brought to us with a "DPF problem" or "DPF cleaning" do not have anything wrong with their DPF. They do not need the DPF cleaned - they need the problem that is stopping the DPF from cleaning itself resolved.

Diesel Intake Cleaning

You may require our Diesel Intake Cleaning service if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Poor Fuel Economy

  • Rough Idle

  • Engine Management Light ON

  • Reduction or loss of power

  • Stalling

  • Restricted Intake System

  • Smoking Exhaust

  • Smells from Exhaust

  • EGR Valve Dirty or Blocked

  • Difficult to Start

  • DPF Light On

These problems are often the result of the intake system has becoming restricted due to a build-up of carbon deposits. Excess soot and carbon gums up piston rings and reduces compression in the process. The injector nozzles then become contaminated with a hard deposit that affects atomisation of the fuel, affecting emissions and often producing more soot.

Cleaning one or two components such as EGR or DPF may have a short-term effect but effectively this treats just the symptom, not the problem.
